I highly recommend Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman for anybody looking for a series of essays on popular culture that have a freshness about them like that of a spritz of lemon air freshener. (If that’s your thing, of course. It could also be, vanilla or orange or ‘new car smell.’ Whatever your fancy, it’s effin’ fresh.)
The topics he writes about range from cover bands to Saved by the Bell to internet porn to serial killers and these topics (and many more) are then looked at in an utterly new way. I had the entire book finished in less than 24 hours, and it only took me that long because I had like, responsibilities and stuff. Ultimately at the conclusion of the essays, I wished I had in fact been the author.
You may chuckle. You may nod in agreement. You may even disagree.
But you will not be disappointed.
